On the occasion of the 21st edition of the “Week of the Italian Language in the World”, the Italian Embassy in Ottawa has uploaded the documentary “Dante Confidential” on its YouTube channel, with English subtitles.
In the documentary the conductor Pierfrancesco Diliberto, a/k/a Pif, guides the viewer on a journey like a present-day Virgil, beginning from historic Florence and the surroundings in which Dante, the Supreme Poet, was born and grew up, maturing the experience of life and feelings that led him to compose the Divine Comedy. In the documentary we discover a human Dante, a Dante who is alive and engaged in the politics of the city: experiencing the struggle, the corruption, and the pettiness of men, but also the noblest and most intimate feelings such as love, compassion, loneliness, or friendship.
The documentary is a testimony that Dante’s work still demonstrates all its relevance today and, thanks to the infinite genius and depth of thought of our Supreme Poet, assumes the immortal character that history ascribes to him.
