Trade development and the prospects of cooperation for the technological needs of the Panama Canal, the international airport of Tocumen and the system of logistics as well as physical and digital connectivity of the country: Leonardo Spa traveled to Panama from October 4 to 7 with these goals in mind, and the support of the Italian Embassy.
During the visit, the company’s executives, Chairman Luciano Carta; the CEO and Sales Director of Leonardo International, Pasquale Di Bartolomeo; the head of the public relations office, Augusto Rubei; and the security manager, Andrea Salpietro, met with the Panamanian Ministers of Industry and Trade, Investments, Security, Canal Affairs, Agricultural Development and the Executive Secretary of the National Security Council, as well as the CEO of Tocumen International Airport. The meetings served to reestablish contacts with the Panamanian authorities after years of absence, and explore potential opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
Chairman Carta, in describing to the participants the evolution of Leonardo Spa with respect to Finmeccanica, emphasized not only the changes in the organization and governance of the group, but also the mechanisms of internal control that have brought it recognition by Transparency International as the leading company among the Defense and Aerospace Industries for the measures it has implemented to prevent corruption.
In the perspective of the Group’s global strategies, Chairman Carta stressed the interest for a potential further expansion of Leonardo in a region in which Panama can strengthen its role as a logistics hub for both transport and digital-technological applications. In particular, he outlined a number of possible synergisms in sectors characterized by needs of security and development, control and monitoring of the frontiers and of the territory using satellites and radar, surveillance of critical infrastructures and urban areas, for transportations systems and action in areas pertaining to both land and sea with aircraft suitable for the Panamanian territory such as helicopters and drones. Panama is anxious to expand its role as a regional hub and also plans to focus the interest of its counter parties on the crucial issues of cybersecurity and applications of Artificial Intelligence.
