On the Italian Cultural Institute of Amsterdam initiative, a rich programme of events is underway to celebrate the 21st Italian Language Week in the world, which takes place from 18 to 24 October. Events that have already begun in recent weeks and will also be held in the coming months.
Among the upcoming initiatives is the presentation of the film “Atlas” at the IIC headquarters tomorrow, 21 October. It is a Swiss-Italian co-production realised with the Swiss Embassy in the Netherlands.
On Friday 22 October, at 7.00 p.m., a live performance in English, ”DANTE (A)LIVE – Viaggio verso la ragione, musica e letture della Divina Commedia” [Journey towards reason, music, and readings from the Divine Comedy], will be held. The performance, a multidisciplinary project based on integrating music and literature also including the recitation of three excerpts from Dante’s Divine Comedy, is realised in collaboration with the Italian Professional Netherlands (IPN) and Skimming Water. The direction is by Vincenzo Toscani while the actors will be Rob Grant in the part of Dante and Rossella Caruso in that of Beatrice.
On 26 and 27 November, the international conference “Rivolti al monte. Sguardi inediti al Purtagotio di Dante. [“Facing the mountain. Unprecedented insights into Dante’s Purgatory”] will be held in Utrech. The event is organised by the local university in cooperation with the IIC. In November, the project “Reis naar Dante’s goddlijke komedie” will be launched. Eighteen mini-videos with the narration and reading of the Divine Comedy in Dutch, an IIC production visible on the Institute’s social channels. Next December, “The Divine Comedy”, translated into Dutch by Herman Jansen, will be presented. Reiner Speelman, who also translated the introduction by G.A. Borghese, a book published by Ijzer from Utrech with the contribution of the IIC, supervised the work.
