A gala production of Giacomo Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” promoted and supported by the Italian Cultural Institute of Belgrade will be staged on Sunday, 28 November at 7 pm at the National Theatre of Belgrade. The production is a production of the Puccini Festival Foundation of Torre del Lago Puccini, in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute of Belgrade and the National Theatre of Belgrade.

The Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago, which takes place every year in the open-air Gran Teatro, is the most important event dedicated to the most represented and loved opera composer of the 20th century. Giacomo Puccini spent three long years documenting and minutely studying Japanese customs and traditions to shape Cio Cio San, his heroine. After 117 years after the first performance on 17 February 1904 at La Scala in Milan, and 101 years after the first performance at the National Theatre in Belgrade on 11 February 1920, she still retains all her charm.

On Sunday in Belgrade, the performance of the opera will be entrusted to the soloists Shoko Okada (Cio Cio San), Vincenzo Costanzo (Pinkerton) and Arianna Manganello (Suzuki), conducted by Maestro Fabrizio Ventura and directed by Manu Lalli. The National Theatre of Belgrade participates with its orchestra and chorus. The superb Italian set design, with a beautiful forest of real trees, will be used on the stage of the National Theatre. The costumes are the original ones designed for the Puccini Festival.
