On the initiative of the Italian Cultural Institutes of Edinburgh, Dublin and London, Leonardo Sciascia’s “Favole della dittatura“, published in 1950, will soon be available in an English-language version. It was decided to publish an English-language version to mark the centenary of the birth of this prestigious Italian anti-fascist writer, essayist and playwright.
The English-language version, translated by Ann Goldstein, will be entitled “Fables from the Dictatorship”, and will be presented in English, on 30 November, by the Italian Cultural Institute in Dublin, as a special event on Zoom.
During the event, the historical and linguistic context of “Fables from the Dictatorship” will be illustrated by illustrious writers and scholars including Joe Farrell – who has written an introduction to the “Fables” – Mark Chu, Enrica Maria Ferrara, Cormac Ó Cuilleanáin, and Serena Todesco. This will be followed by a reading of excerpts, by Ann Goldstein.
