The Embassy of Italy in Montevideo has organised a series of initiatives for the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and the ITA Foreign Trade Agency of Buenos Aires and the Italian Academy of Cuisine.
Taking part in the conference to present the programme of events were Giovanni Iannuzzi, the Italian Ambassador of Italy; Silvia Merli, the Director of the Institute of Culture; Manuel Ascer, the delegate of the Italian Academy of Montevideo; and the “chef” Sergio Puglia.
Ambassador Iannuzzi stressed that ‘the Italian heritage in Montevideo has been built up since the 18th century and continues to be present in Uruguay with a community of about 130,000 compatriots, and is also influential on architecture, art, language, science, and business. We are proud to launch the 6th Week of Italian Cuisine” he added, “because we consider gastronomy to be a true expression of Italian culture.”
