The Italian Cultural Institute of Tirana collaborated on the organisation of two performances as part of the 16th “Albania Dance Meeting-Festival”. Both productions, by the Sosta Palmizi Association in Kosovo and Albania, were staged on Wednesday 10 November at the Experimental Theatre in Tirana.
The first, entitled “Wabi-Sabi” (from the Japanese), was choreographed by Sofia Nappi and the dancers were Sofia Nappi, Adriano Popolo Rubbio, and Paolo Piancastelli. It offers a vision of the world that is centred on the acceptance of the transience of things, and on the search for beauty in the imperfect that brings growth, renewal and joy. The name of the second performance “Reva” derives from the Hindi and means “Regaining strength” or “Rain”. It poses the question: what would we do if we suddenly found ourselves stripped of everything, with nothing to lose? It is like being caught by the rain: we can choose in vain to escape, trying not to get wet, or to embrace the rain, immersing ourselves in the pleasure of perceiving ourselves in connection with the universe for the first time. Here again the choreography is by Sofia Nappi, in collaboration with Paolo Piancastelli; both are also the perforners.
The Compagnia Sosta Palmizi was one of the very first contemporary dance troupes in Italy (1985). Today the current Association‚ which is guided by two of the choreographers of the initial group, is an important artistic and pedagogical point of reference for new generations of dancers and choreographers.
