The Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels is hosting an exhibition of works by renowned Italian artist Nazareno Rocchetti.
Painter, sculptor, ceramist and performer, Nazareno Rocchetti entered the art world in his maturity, but made up for lost time by quickly making a name for himself. Until 1999, in fact, he worked as a masseur for the Italian national athletics team, working with several famous athletes, such as Pietro Mennea, Gelindo Bordin, Sara Simeoni and Valentina Vezzali.
He then decided to devote himself completely to art, at first with sculpture and then painting. As a sculptor, he mainly created large-sized works using all kinds of materials, but preferably wood, especially olive wood.
A crucial turning point for the artist, who hails from the Marche region, occurred after his meeting with the painter Josè Guevara, the world’s leading exponent of material informalism – of which he is now considered the only heir – which left a mark on his artistic career, bringing him closer to painting with fire.
The exhibition, open from 18 December to 13 January, consists of a series of paintings made using the pigment-burning technique.
