A presentation event of the 17th Giornata del Contemporaneo [Day of Contemporary Art], promoted by AMACI (the Association of Contemporary Art Museums in Italy), took place on 6 December at the Italian Embassy in Brussels. For the occasion, a number of works of contemporary art were exhibited at the residence of Ambassador Francesco Genuardi: in particular, two photographs by Massimo Vitali – one of the world’s most noted Italian photographers, known for his photographs of the scenic beauties of Italy – and two contemporary art works by Serena Fineschi from Italy and Arlette Vermeiren from Belgium on the themes of reusing everyday objects and materials.

The display of these works was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Embassy, the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels, the CENTRALE for Contemporary Art in Brussels, and the Palazzo Magnani Foundation in Reggio Emilia, and is part of the major exhibition “La vie materielle” of 12 Italian and Belgian artists, including Fineschi and Vermeiren, that was inaugurated on 9 December and will run until the end of March 2022 at the Centrale in Brussels, a historic power station in the heart of the Belgian capital that has been converted into a centre for contemporary art.

The exhibition – which well represents the level of intense cultural cooperation between Italy and Belgium – was conceived by Marina Dacci, Curator of the Palazzo Magnani Foundation, and Carine Fol, Curator of the CENTRALE, who both also participated in the creation of the presentation event, at which Ambassador Genuardi underlined the importance of Italian cultural diplomacy and the dialogue with Belgium, including in the field of contemporary art.

This collaboration between the Palazzo Magnani Foundation and the CENTRALE will also include a video presentation of the artists and their works, which will be available soon on the social network channels of the Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute.
