Video series “Voyage in the Divine Comedy” in the Dutch language

The Italian Institute of Culture in Amsterdam celebrates the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death with a contemporary adaptation of the Divine Comedy: 18 episodes that can be viewed free of charge from December 6 on the Institute’s YouTube channel, where they will remain available indefinitely.

Three actors (Edith Andriesse, Hans Daalder, Marcel Schouwstra) star in the famous medieval allegory of world literature, with a video series entitled “Voyage in the Divine Comedy”, in the Dutch language. The episodes – which open with an introduction – include the key events in Dante’s work; each video, which lasts about 5 minutes, can be watched by itself.

The texts in prose come from the noted Dutch translation by Frans Van Dooren and are curated by Alberto Casadei, professor of Italian Literature at the University of Pisa, while the comment to the cantos is by Claudia Sebastiana Nobili, professor of Italian Literature at the University of Bologna; the Dutch translation of the comments to the cantos is by Adriano Bank. The anthology and comment are taken from the publication “From the dark wood to Paradise” (2020) by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Gianluca Barbadori directed the video series.
