To mark the Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January, the Italian Cultural Institute in Barcelona, in cooperation with RAI, will host the screening of Bruna Bertani’s film “Gli sci di Primo Levi” directed by Paola Toscano..
The docufilm narrates the story of Primo Levi, the man and the writer, through the memories of those who knew him like, among others, Anna Bravo, Carlo Ginzburg, Piero Bianucci, Liliana Segre, and Domenico Scarpa. The film’s fil rouge lies in the story told by Ives Francisco, a partisan who was with him when they were arrested and imprisoned in the Valle d’Aosta mountains, ahead of Levi’s deportation. The title of the documentary is taken from an anedocte Yves shares about a pair of skis Levi left behind and that Yves used to flee to Switzerland and to return home after the war.
The words spoken by the interviewees alternate with Levi’s own words taken from a selection of archive materials dealing with a wide range of topics – memory, writing, work, his Jewish roots, and his character. The film also includes excerpts from his works and images that evoke the Shoah. As if he was handing in his final notice, his poem “Le pratiche inevase”brings the story to an end. The docufilm is made in cooperation with the International Primo Levi Study Centre in Turin.
