The Italian Cultural Institute in Paris hosts “The Recovery Plan. Devoir de mémoire à l’italienne”, an itinerant cultural centre for the work of artists of African origin in the Italian context. The temporary centre curated by BHMF (Black History Month Florence), in collaboration with BHMFBo (Black History Month Bologna) and the magazine “Africa e Mediterraneo”, houses three exhibitions.

“Gettare il Sasso e Nascondere la Mano” is the title of a collective exhibition dedicated to five artists of the first edition of the YGBI (Young Gifted and Black Italians) Research Residency: Binta Diaw, Victor Fotso Nyie, Francis Offman, Raziel Perin, and Emmanuel Yoro. The exhibition – which will be inaugurated on Thursday, 13 January, and will be open to the public from 14 January to 16 February 2022 – embraces a series of narratives that link spirituality to education, colonial history, its materiality, and historical activism.

“Black Archive Alliance Vol. III” was born from a collaboration between five Afro-descendant researchers who worked in tandem with the artists of the first edition of YGBI Research Residency. Working in pairs, through an experimental approach based on dialogue and exchange, they have explored tangible and intangible archives rooted in Italy.

Lastly, “Pulse: raccontando trent’anni di Africa e Mediterraneo” recognizes the action carried out by the magazine in addressing creative, artistic, and literary productions, social and cultural problems in African countries, and international migrations, especially between Africa and Europe, with a complex and critical attitude.
