At the initiative of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tunis, two cooperation agreements have been signed between the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Tunis (MACAM) and two Italian Institutions, namely the Fondazione Scuola dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali and the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo”. Both agreements aim at multidisciplinary training and exchange of experiences and researchers in the management of cultural heritage.

The signing ceremony took place in the past few days and was attended by the Minister of Cultural Affairs Hayet Ketat Guermazi and the Italian Ambassador Lorenzo Fanara, among others.

The agreement between MACAM and the Fondazione Scuola dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali refers to the organization of a training programme for the staff of the museum on the care and management of cultural heritage. This cooperation, which also introduces the first edition of the “Twinning Programme” that aims to strengthen the international role of Italy in policies and practices in the field of culture, is the first pilot project through which it is possible to create exchange opportunities among Italian and Tunisian modern and contemporary art museums.

The second agreement, signed with the Department of Pure and Applied Sciences of the University of Urbino, mainly focuses on the analysis and digitalization of the works found at MACAM to document their state of conservation and possible restoration. This agreement will also make it possible to enhance what has already been done with the “Tempus Infobc” project, which started in 2015 and was financed by EU funding. This made it possible to bring into the Tunisian training system a bachelor’s degree in restoration in six universities in the entire national territory for the first time.
