The Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa is organising the second of a series of four conferences, entitled “The mystery of the lost painters”. The conference, to be held online today and curated by researcher Shuli Feuer Scheinwald, zeroes in on two female artists, included in the group of the major Italian Renaissance painters.
The first, Sofonisba Anguissola, was the daughter of a fallen nobleman, who had educated her to court life in Spain, where she was hugely successful, despite selling no paintings at all. The second, Lavinia Fontana, was the daughter of a painter and her professional career greatly resembled those of her male peers. Princes and prelates were among her patrons in Bologna and Rome.
The conference can be followed on the Institute’s YouTube channel or on the Institute’s Facebook page
