The Bratislava Italian Cultural Institute has planned a series of cultural events in March to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Pier Paolo Pasolini.
It kicks off today, 3 March, at the Kino Lumière in Bratislava, with inauguration of the “Mamma Roma” photography exhibition which will run until 31 March, showing the photos shot by Divo Cavicchioli and Angelo Novi during filming of “Mamma Roma” (1962) starring Anna Magnani and directed by Pasolini himself. The event will be held in association with the Centro Cinema of Cesena.
In addition to the “Mamma Roma” film screening at the Kino Lumière today, the “Pasolini 100” filmfest will open, held in association with the National Film Archive of Slovakia. It will show four films that have been recently digitalised and restored: “Accattone” (1961) on 10 March, “The Gospel According to St. Matthew” (1964) on 24 March and “Theorem” (1968) on 31 March.
“Mamma Roma” will also be shown by RTVS – the Slovakian state television – to pay homage to the great Italian intellectual. Pasolini’s masterpiece will be broadcast in the original language with Slovakian subtitles.
