For the staging of the opera “Mary Stuart’”in the city, the Italian Cultural Institute in Dublin and music historian Adrian Le Harivel – curator of the British Art Section at the National Gallery of Ireland – offer an exclusive guided tour in search of the most important paintings in the National Gallery.
Just like Gaetano Donizetti and other Italian opera composers of the early 19th century, Romantic artists were fascinated by characters and scenes set in historical contexts.
The guided tour of the National Gallery will include magnificent, highly detailed works by Daniel Maclise, David Wilkie and Jean-Ernest Meissonier, which reinterpret, with great pathos, the myths of the past.
