The Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria has organised two concerts by the eminent pianist Nazareno Ferruggio. The first concert will be held at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria on Monday, 8 August, and the second will be hosted at the Durban Jewish Club on Tuesday, 9 August. Scarlatti and Chopin are the composers of the pieces chosen from the repertoire of the Italian pianist.

Ferruggio graduated with honours from the Niccolò Piccini State Music Conservatory of Bari and completed his studies at the Musikhochschule in Berne. He is the winner of 18 first prizes in national and international competitions, including, in 2005, the prize for the best performance of pieces by Debussy at the prestigious IBLA Grand Prize International Piano Competition; in 2007, the Liszt Special Prize at the 8th Grieg International Piano Competition in Oslo; in 2009, he won the first prize at the ”Premio Valentino” International Piano Competition. He has performed in some of the world’s most renowned concert halls such as the Carnegie Hall, the Lindemann Hall, the Wiener Saal, the Conservatori Municipal de Musica of Barcelona, the ​​Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica.

Ferruggio is also visiting professor at the University of Suwon in South Korea and at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
