Young Musicians European Orchestra in Vietnam

La Young Musicians European Orchestra in Vietnam
La Young Musicians European Orchestra in Vietnam

The Young Musicians European Orchestra, one of the most dynamic Italian orchestral start-ups, linked to Maestro Paolo Olmi and animated by very young musicians from Italy and other countries, ended their visit to Vietnam with a great concert in the prestigious and historical Opera House of Ho Chi Minh City.

Thanks to the organization of the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, from 18 September the choir, soloists and orchestra of the Opera House of Ho Chi Minh City, together with their young colleagues who arrived from Italy, dedicated days full of section rehearsals and ensemble rehearsals, ending in a big concert entirely dedicated to the Italian repertoire.

At the same time, Maestro Olmi held two lectures at the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City to present the link between opera and the Italian language and culture: the first was for the students of the Department of Italian Studies and the second was open to all students interested. Both lectures, accompanied by short concerts by some members of the orchestra, were well attended.

The project in Vietnam, strongly supported by CIDIM – Comitato Nazionale Italiano Musica [National Italian Music Committee], the Ministry of Culture, the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Emilia-Romagna Region, aims to collaborate with the Opera Orchestra of Ho Chi Minh City, which has been spreading opera in Asia for decades with its orchestra, a choir, a corps de ballet, and a large group of singers. Very few of these artists have had contact with the Italian world of music and theatre; they are the ones who asked to work with Maestro Olmi and the Young Musicians European Orchestra to study, research and train on the Italian repertoire, both operatic and instrumental, to increase knowledge of Italian opera, which in Vietnam, for reasons related to the Country’s recent and less recent history, is relatively less known, especially compared to other European opera traditions.
