The programme of the 2022-2023 season of ‘Teatro alla Scala’ opera house, which begins on 7 December, was presented at the Italian Embassy in Berlin.
Ambassador Armando Varricchio’s guest was CEO Dominique Meyer, who illustrated the complete programme and the many projects intended for children and families. The presentation also took stock of the major projects, such as the construction of the new building for the rehearsal rooms, and gave a preview of the platform that – starting in early 2023 – will offer the live streaming of a selection of performances hosted by the opera house, giving La Scala a global virtual audience.
Taking the floor, Ambassador Varricchio recalled the strength, including the symbolic one, Teatro alla Scala exerts across the world. A strength that expresses and showcases Italian excellence in artistic performance, theatre set design and costumes, and also in technology and management. Ambassador Varricchio also pointed out that the Embassy enthusiastically helps promote this message, which meets extraordinary and fruitful interest in Germany, in particular in Berlin.
“Germany is a land of music – Meyer said – its great tradition is matched by an enthusiastic and highly interested audience, which, aside from attending the closest theatres and concert halls, travels too, in search of new opportunities for listening, even beyond its borders. The German public was among the first to return to ‘La Scala’ after the pause imposed by the pandemic, thus proving its fondness of our opera house”.
The presentation was enriched by a musical performance by mezzo-soprano Anna-Doris Capitelli.
