“Stories of Divided Humanity: from the Chinese Wall to Banksy” is the lecture-show on the walls of History, which the Italian Cultural Institute of Brussels and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Belgium and the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union) will set up on 7 December.
The words of Paolo Colombo and the magic of Michele Tranquillini’s drawings will allow the audience to see walls rising and falling, to listen to the stories of those who live in the shadow of such walls, to discern the signs and drawings covering them, to understand their meaning and sometimes their absurdity. Indeed, walls have always been part of human history, ever since ancient times. “If walls could talk…,” is a common expression. In this exceptional history-telling, walls speak to us: about our history, our limitations, our aspirations. They tell us about ourselves.
