Marco Gualazzini’s shots from his travels to Africa, which report the deprivation of fundamental human rights suffered by the local populations, are on display until 5 January at the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague.

The “Resilient” exhibition displays 53 medium and large-sized photographs, accompanied by a video documentary on Gualazzini’s work in Africa, produced by the Small Boss company and directed by Stefano Cattini. This is a further testimony of a profession defined by the photographer himself as carried out always “tiptoeing”, feeling the greatest respect for the suffering and pain which are “normal” in this part of the world.

A preview of the exhibition, with a limited number of photos, was held from 21 November to 9 December in the premises of the Chamber of Deputies in the Czech Republic thanks to the support of MP Vojtěch Munzar, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group between the Czech Republic and Italy.

Promoted by the Eleutheria Foundation, together with the Italian Cultural Institute, the exhibition was curated by the President of the Foundation, Francesco Augusto Razetto, as well as the Vice-President, Ottaviano Maria Razetto, under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Prague, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Prague 1 Municipality, the Comites of the Czech Republic, the Italian-Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Parma Palatina cultural association.

Marco Gualazzini, who was awarded the World Press Photo in 2019, started his career as a photographer in 2004 with his hometown daily newspaper, Gazzetta di Parma. Before focusing on the African continent, his photographic reportage covered microfinance in India, freedom of expression in Myanmar, and discrimination against minorities in Pakistan.
