L'Albania nel terzo millennio

On the occasion of the sixth edition of the Italian Design Day, the Italian Cultural Institute of Tirana – in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Polytechnic University of Tirana and La Sapienza University of Rome – presents the Scientific Conference “Albania in the Third Millennium. Architecture, City, Territory”.

The event, to be held on 8 March at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, is aimed to reflect on the architectural development of Albania, to which both Italian and Albanian scholars, architects and engineers have contributed. Thanks also to their geographical proximity, Italy and Albania have shared several important historical moments, consolidating their close cultural, political and socio-economic ties.

The conference stems from the consideration that architecture and urban planning in Albania have long attracted great cultural interest. In the course of the proceedings, some problematic aspects of the contemporary condition will also be discussed, such as the coexistence of globalised and localist dimensions, which has influenced the transformation of today’s territorial realities.
