The exhibition “Fotogrammi di moda italiana: dagli anni ’50, l’Italia che veste il cinema internazionale” (Photograms of Italian fashion: from the 1950s, Italy dressing international cinema), organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid under the auspices of the Italian Embassy in Spain and curated by Stefano Dominella, honorary president of the Maison Gattinoni, will open on 27 October. The exhibition will portray the relationship between cinema and fashion, which has always been an effective tool for promoting Made in Italy abroad.
In fact, in the 1950s, it was Hollywood cinema that showed the world that a new “couture” trend was emerging in Rome, Italy, which would give rise to “Made in Italy”, while the city was rapidly becoming the “Hollywood on the Tiber” and the Italian dream factory.
The exhibition will display dresses from important private historical archives and from Stefano Dominella’s personal collection. It will feature dresses designed by famous couturiers, stylists and ateliers such as Fernanda Gattinoni, Renato Balestra, Emilio Schuberth, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Sartoria Peruzzi, Annamode Costumes, Irene Galitzine, Laura Biagiotti, Guillermo Mariotto and worn by iconic actresses who started new trends including Lana Turner, Anita Ekberg, Anna Magnani, Sabrina Ferilli, Monica Bellucci, Gina Lollobrigida, Fanny Ardant, Charlotte Rampling, Liz Taylor, Claudia Cardinale, Penelope Cruz, Silvana Pampanini, Maria Callas and Sophia Loren.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until 13 January 2024.
