On the occasion of the 23rd edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World – this year on the theme of sustainability – and the centenary of Italo Calvino’s birth, the Italian Embassy in Canada organised a conference dedicated to the famous Italian writer. The conference, organised by Professor Paolo Granata of the University of Toronto, was held at the National Arts Centre, an important cultural and artistic institution in Ottawa.
Mr. Granata, who teaches in the Book and Media Studies programme at St. Michael’s College, offered an audience of 150 an innovative reading of the American Lectures, focusing, among other things, on the concept of “digital sustainability”.
At the end of the conference, the participants also had the opportunity to visit the exhibition “Calvino qui e altrove” (Calvino here and elsewhere), promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and dedicated to the historical editions of Calvino’s main works translated into foreign languages.
