The Italian Embassy in Tbilisi’s commitment to showcasing Italy’s priceless cultural heritage in Georgia continues. After the great archaeological exhibitions on ancient Rome and Pompeii, enter the exhibition “Etruscan World. Treasures from the Museums of Chiusi, Chianciano and Florence”, with its precious finds from the National Etruscan Museum of Chiusi, the Archaeological Museum of Chianciano Terme and the National Archaeological Museum of Florence.

The exhibition – the first on the Etruscan civilisation in Georgia – proposes a fascinating journey into the most evolved Italic civilisation of pre-Roman Italy, recounting its many facets: from daily life to worship, from customs and traditions to conceptions of the Afterlife, from enigmatic writing to vivid male and female faces.

The exhibition thus intends to reveal the secrets of the Etruscan world to the Georgian public through the famous Chiusi canopic jars (anthropomorphic cinerary vases, typical of the Chiusi area), painted urns and sculptures, bucchero and bronze vessels, ceramics and gold objects. Among the works on display, two are also related to Colchis, an ancient Georgian land: the clay crater (400-380 BC) and the bronze mirror (300-275 BC) depicting the myth of the Argonauts.

Realised in Georgia by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the Regional Museums Directorate of Tuscany, which secured the loan, and with the organisational support of Glocal Project Consulting and the Georgian National Museum, the exhibition will remain open until 31 March at the Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia, and will then travel to the Otar Lordkipanidze Archaeological Museum in Vani, where it will remain until 31 August 2024.
