The ceremony for the handover of the “Flame of Hope” to the Organising Committee of the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 took place at the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Athens, Paolo Cuculi.
The event was attended by the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, the Mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, and the President of the Organising Committee, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, alongside around 180 Italian, Greek, and international delegates.
The flame, lit in a solemn ceremony held in the morning at the monumental “Zappeion” complex in the heart of Athens, was traditionally carried by torchbearers through various points in the Greek capital, culminating at the Italian diplomatic mission, where it was handed over to Ambassador Paolo Cuculi. The delegation then visited the Italian Archaeological School in Athens before returning to Italy with the torch, ahead of the opening ceremony of the World Winter Games scheduled for 8 March in Turin.
