The Embassy of Italy to the Holy See hosted the event “Powering Progress: the energy-food-health nexus for sustainable development” at its headquarters in Palazzo Borromeo, in collaboration with Doctors with Africa CUAMM. As highlighted in the opening remarks by Ambassador Francesco Di Nitto, the event reaffirmed the fruitful cooperation between the Embassy and CUAMM, and provided an opportunity to explore the essential link between energy, health, and the environment in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
In particular, the event featured the presentation of a “clean cooking” project carried out by CUAMM, in partnership with Eni and the Salesians of Don Bosco in Angola, aimed at providing more efficient, reliable, and energy-sustainable cooking solutions. This initiative stands as an important example of how partnerships and the involvement of local communities and religious organisations are key elements for the future of development cooperation.
Speakers included: the Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelisation of the Holy See, Mons. Fortunatus Nwachukwu; the Ambassador of Angola to the Holy See, Carlos Alberto Saraiva de Carvalho Fonseca; the Director of Doctors with Africa CUAMM, Don Dante Carraro; Dr Alessandra Fidanza from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security; and Andrea Marsanich, Head of Carbon Offset Solutions at Eni. The technical panel featured contributions from Simone Mortara, Head of the Global Health Competence Centre at Eni; Alessandro Galimberti, Head of the Climate Change, Environment and Energy Unit and Corporate Risk Manager at AVSI; Matteo Villa, CEO of Solar Barrel; and Veronica Censi, Partnership and Advocacy Manager at CUAMM.
The event concluded with remarks from Domenico Giani, President of the Eni Foundation.
The discussion was moderated by Andrea Atzori, Head of International Relations at CUAMM.
