The Embassy of Italy to the Holy See, in collaboration with the Ministry for Family, Natality and Equal Opportunities, hosted a public event on Tuesday, 13 January, at its premises in Palazzo Borromeo, Rome. The event aimed to promote the internationalisation of the debate on surrogacy and to foster awareness of its ethical, legal and social implications.
Following the opening remarks by the Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See, H.E. Di Nitto and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps to the Holy See, the Ambassador of Cyprus, H.E. Poulides, the speakers included: the Minister for Family, Natality and Equal Opportunities, Roccella and the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations of the Holy See, His Excellency Monsignor Gallagher. The debate was moderated by journalist Susanna Lemma.
The event at Palazzo Borromeo forms part of the joint awareness-raising efforts by Italy and the Holy See within the United Nations on the issue of surrogacy and follows previous events held in New York and Geneva.
