“Happy Valley”, the first solo exhibition in Southeast Asia by Italian photographer Pierfrancesco Celada, opened at the Esplanade Tunnel (Basement 1) in Singapore and will remain open to the public until 5 January. The exhibition was presented during the Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF), with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Singapore.
Celada’s unexpected encounters, which took place in Hong Kong between 2014 and 2022, were transformed into poignant images, in which the author sought to capture moments of contemplation and murmurs, waiting for viewers to discover their innermost meanings.
“Happy Valley” is an allegory weaving through time and narrating the state of mind of those striving to live an ordinary life in Hong Kong. As stated by the artist: “Through visual metaphors, I have explored my relationship with the city with the aim of creating a contemporary portrait of Hong Kong, reflecting its complex and multi-layered reality”.
Other events curated by the Italian Embassy in Singapore include the celebrations for the Week of the Italian Language in the World 2024, with the Singapore Writers Festival being attended by a leading figure in contemporary Italian literature: Paolo Giordano, known for his international best seller “The Solitude of Prime Numbers”.
