Italian contemporary design takes centre-stage in the exhibition “The New Italian Design 2.0”, running through 20 August in Beijing, the first major international exhibition to the held in the capital since UNESCO’s acclaimed “Design Cities”. The show will then move to Taiwan to run from 20 September to 20 November.
Conceived by the Triennale Design Museum, and curated and mounted by architect/designer Andrea Branzi, the exhibition is part of the lead up to Beijing Design Week (28 September – 6 October 2012), where the city of Milan will be guest of honour.
The initiative has the patronage of the Embassy of Italy and the City of Milan, and is being financed by the BIDC and promoted by the Sino-Italian Design Innovation Center (CIDIC), created in the spring of 2012 as a platform for cooperation between Italian and Chinese institutions and research centres.
In his introduction to the exhibition catalogue, education minister Francesco Profumo recalled the importance of cooperation between Italy and China in the design sector as one of the fundamental instruments for innovation in industrial production.
