The Amatriciana Day, organised in Tokyo as part of the Week of Italian Cuisine in Japan last November, raised more than 15,000 euros for the Amatrice earthquake victims. The initiative was promoted by a group of journalists and Japanese chefs of Italian cuisine and was sponsored and supported by the Italian Embassy.
The event, now at its third edition, received great public acclaim (with approximately 1000 visitors) and also received coverage by the Italian and Japanese press. At the event, numerous Japanese chefs of Italian cuisine and an Italian chef who specifically came from Amatrice for the event, prepared and sold pasta all’ Amatriciana and other typical regional dishes for charity.
A few days ago, the Embassy deposited 15,699.52 euros, the fruit of the Amatriciana Day along with some other small private donations, on the banking account of the Municipality of Amatrice. Ambassador Giorgio Starace accompanied the deposit with a letter addressed to the Mayor of the northern Lazio city.
