The Service for Legal Affairs, Diplomatic Disputes and International Agreements participates in the negotiation of international, bilateral and multilateral treaties, as well as other instruments of international significance, assisting the other offices of the Ministry and other State Administrations (central and peripheral offices).
This activity is currently regulated by Circular Letter No. 2 of 2021, under which the proper fulfilment of the ratification procedures of treaties necessary for their entry into force is also ensured. Every year, Italy concludes more than 100 international agreements and an equal number of technical agreements are signed by State Administrations.
The Service is responsible for managing the Archives of Treaties concluded by the Republic of Italy, which can also be consulted online. There you can find the original copies of all the bilateral pact instruments in force, as well as the multilateral treaties for which Italy serves as the depositary, totalling approximately 10,000 agreements.
