The Calcutta International Book Fair opens on 24 January, where Italy has been invited as guest of honour.
With over one million participants and proceeds of nearly two million euro in books sold at every recurrence, the “Kolkata Book Fair” is India’s most important event of the kind. It takes place at this time every year in Calcutta, the cultural capital of India and home to the country’s main universities and cinema production centre. Each edition is dedicated to a guest country (last year it was the United States) and, reciprocating the spotlight given to India at the 2010 Turin Book Fair, Italy is the 2012 edition’s guest.
