Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Giuseppe Morabito visited the base of the Italian contingent deployed on the “LEONTE XI” mission in the southern Lebanon village of Shama.
Italy’s support for the mission
The visit goes beyond an institutional gesture and falls within the broader context of the Italian government and society’s support for the efforts of the Italian blue helmets to bring stability and peace to southern Lebanon, and is therefore clear evidence of a desire to achieve the objectives of United Nations Resolution 1701.
Civilian and military cooperation
The ambassador was received by Brigade General Carlo Lamanna, Commander of the Italian contingent and the Western Multinational Sector of UNIFIL, as well as by Italian military representatives from the “Pinerolo” brigade.
In a briefing General Lamanna pointed out the operational details of numerous civilian and military cooperation (CIMIC) projects completed in the villages and towns of southern Lebanon.
