The Foreign Ministry Crisis Unit is preparing for the European soccer championship with a special task force that will monitor eventual risks for Italian fans travelling to this major sporting event to be held in Poland and Ukraine from 8 June to 1 July.
24-hour crisis rooms
The initiative includes special 24-hour crisis rooms to be set up in Kiev and Warsaw and connected with the other European embassies, to handle any possible emergencies rapidly and effectively. The system, which will also be replicated during the Olympic Games in London, is based on a mapping of all the sports facilities involved and their links with emergency facilities, hospitals and means of escape. The goal is to ensure a real-time response in case of emergency based on information regarding the movement of Italian nationals.
