LONDON – The Amerigo Vespucci docks at Portsmouth

A stopover in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, for the Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian Navy’s “school ship” and one of the world’s most spectacular sailing ships. Waiting to greet the ship was the Italian Ambassador to London, Alain Giorgio Maria Economides, who boarded the vessel to welcome the crew and the cadets from Livorno Naval Academy. The cadets then visited Casa Italia, the London venue set up by the Italian Olympic Committee for the recently concluded Games.

The ship was open to the public during the week starting 6 August, at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, after which it set sail for Saint-Malo, in France, where it will remain until 20 August. The Amerigo Vespucci will also be visiting Dublin, Lisbon and Valencia.
