Next Saturday, there will be an open day at the Italian Cultural Institute in Marseilles. The Institute is organising a “Casa d’Italia” tour as part of the 2017 European Heritage Days and the IV Biennial on immigration organised by the RHMIT network (history and memory of immigration and territories network), dealing with history, recollections, heritage and citizenship. The author of the book Empreinte Italienne, immigration à Marseille 1830-1960 (“Italian footprints, immigration to Marseilles 1830-1960”), Stéphane Mourlane of the University of Aix-Marseille, will also take part in the event. Built in the 1930s, the “Casa d’Italia” in Marseilles was a symbolic destination for Italian immigrants, and housed the Italian Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute.
