MALI – Italy cannot not take part in EU mission, says Terzi

“I believe that a country like Italy, engaged not just in combating terrorism, but in fostering stability and development in the Sahel region, cannot not take part – even if only to a limited extent – in this operation” in Mali.


These were Minister Terzi’s words as he reported to the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees and reiterated the Government’s decision to send 15 to 24 instructors, out of 450 envisaged by the training mission, as set out in the “Missions Decree” that will be considered by the Chamber today.

On Tuesday 22 January, at 8.30, the Foreign and Defence Ministers, Giulio Terzi and Giampaolo Di Paola, will brief the joint Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees of the Chamber and Senate on recent developments in the situation in Mali. The event will take place in the Mappamondo room at Palazzo Montecitorio, which houses the Chamber of Deputies. It will be broadcast live on Montecitorio’s WebTV.
