Paraguay and USA: Terzi’s meetings at the Farnesina

Bilateral relations the focus of talks

Bilateral relations were the focus of Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi’s talks at the Farnesina with the Foreign Minister of Paraguay, Jose’ Felix Fernandez Estigarriba, and a delegation from the United States Congress. Both were in Rome for the ceremonies marking the beginning of the Pontificate of His Holiness Pope Francis.

Paraguay a promising partner

With trade amounting to 288 million euros and a growth rate of 4% in 2011, Paraguay is a promising Latin American commercial partner for Italy. During the meeting, Minister Terzi confirmed our country’s interest in boosting the Italian business presence in Paraguay, in a legal framework, and with investment protection mechanisms, that are increasingly favourable to foreign enterprises.

Excellent relations with the USA

“The parliamentary dimension has historically been one of the strongest links between our two countries. So too has the hugely important role that the Italian community in America has always played in relations between the United States and Italy”. This was Minister Terzi’s comment on the meeting with the American delegation led by the deputy from New Jersey, Chris Smith.

The discussion focused on the excellent state of bilateral relations, which in 2013 are being further enriched by the programme of over 200 events in the “Year of Italian Culture in the USA”. The two sides also underscored the United States and Italy’s shared interest in revitalising economic growth and employment in both countries and, more in general, in the Euro-Atlantic community.
