ITALY-USA – Urbino Award to Wolf Blitzer

Italian ambassador to the U.S. in Washington Claudio Bisogniero announced Wolf Blitzer, conductor of the CNN television programme “The Situation Room” Wolf Blitzer, as winner of the 8th annual Urbino Press Award – this year’s being a special edition as one the many events organized for the 2013 “Year of Italian Culture in the USA”.

“I am honoured to receive the Urbino Press Award”, Blitzer said, underscoring that he was accepting it “also in the name of all my colleagues at CNN”. “Ted Turner’s idea of a channel entirely dedicated to information truly changed the way of doing journalism in the United States and in the world”, explained one of the best-known television faces in the U.S., referring to the founder of CNN.


Bisogniero: Blitzer a quality brand


“Wolf Blitzer is a quality brand in journalism for all o f us”, asserted Ambassador Bisogniero in the course of the festivities, whose participants included prominent American media personalities and members of the Washington administration and diplomatic spheres.
“Wolf has managed to build a strong professional profile in the course of an extraordinary career”, the Italian diplomat continued; during the evening the victims of the tragedies in West, Texas and the Boston Marathon were also recalled.
Blitzer began as a reporter for Reuters in the early 1970s assigned to TelAviv and came to CNN in May of 1990, working for many years as a White House correspondent and finally becoming one of the best-known faces in television news. He will be in Italy on 20 June to accept the award at the customary ceremony held in Urbino.
