Nigeria: 2nd edition Business Forum with UE Countries in October


On the strength of the success of the 1st edition of the EU-Nigeria Business Forum, the Embassy of Italy in Abuja is organising the 2nd edition, along with EU diplomatic missions to Nigeria (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, the UK, Spain and Sweden) under the coordination of the EU Delegation, to be held on 3 and 4 October in Lagos.

Argentina: 2.5 billion USD from reserves to repay debt



Argentina will withdraw 2.5 billion USD from reserves – which amounted as of May to 38.8 billion USD, according to the reserve bank’s biannual bulletin – to repay a portion of its debt due by the end of the year. The Bank announced that “thanks to the strategy of cuts launched by the government”, its debt with private investors went from 105% of GDP in 2003 to 13% in 2013.

Brazil: Government sues Samsung for working conditions



The Brazilian government is suing the Korean electronics multinational Samsung for the bad conditions suffered by workers in its Manaus plant, located in the Amazon region, one of its key plants with 6,000 employees producing goods for distribution across South America. According to the Ministry of Labour, workers put in up to 15 hours a day, 10 of which on their feet, and at times for 27 consecutive days.

Enel Green Power: work begins on aeolic energy park in Chile


Enel Green Power began construction on Taltal, its largest aeolic park in Chile, located at approximately 1,500 km from Santiago. The plant will consist of 33 aeolic turbines of 3 MW each, for a total capacity of 99 MW. Investments in the plant amount to approximately 190 million USD.
