DEI/Sole 24Ore – FYROM – Italian Embassy–ICE Business Forum

Over 100 business people attended a Business Forum organised by the ICE Trade Agency office and the Italian Embassy in Skopje to discuss investment projects in the infrastructure and energy sectors. Topics examined included the 3 new stretches of railway line, for a total of 620 million euros, on which work will soon begin to advance Corridor VIII with Bulgaria. Also discussed was the modernisation of Corridor X, to increase speed levels from the current average of 40-50 km/hour to 120 km/hour.


Important opportunities in the environment, energy and transport sectors were also illustrated. The Director of the Energy Agency, Aleksandar Dukovski, described the potential return on investment in the renewable energy sector, which is experiencing rapid growth. 19 May is the deadline to submit bids for the 6th tender for licences for 80 sites on which to build mini hydro-electric power installations.


Lastly, the Director of the Gas Agency, Krste Miladinov, described the Government’s strategy to set up a public-private partnership to finance, plan and develop a natural gas distribution system in the Skopje region.
