Italy – Recalling the Great War with Ermanno Olmi

All Italian diplomatic missions and cultural institutes around the world will be united on 4 November by a single event: the premier of Ermanno Olmi’s “Torneranno i prati”. The screening of this feature-length film will take place simultaneously in nearly 100 countries around the world within the context of the activities organized to commemorate the centennial of the First World War on the Day of National Unity and of the Italian Armed Forces. The film looks back over the events of a single night along the northwest front following the latest bloody clashes in 1917, taking its cue from the recollections of a pastor who was also a guide for the soldiers. The event is a joint effort by the Office of the Prime Minister, the Farnesina and the Ministry of Defence. Read more, in Italian.
