Tirana – Italian architecture in Albania – 1925 to the present

A series of events (“Sulle tracce dell’Italia in Albania”) were organised by our embassy and Italian Cultural Institute in Tirana within the framework of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The programme aimed at enhancing the contributions to that Balkan country from 1925 to 1943 by Italian architects such as Armando Brasini, Florestano Di Fausto, Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo and Gherardo Bosio. The initiative was extended to include contemporary architecture and offered an opportunity to present a series of projects in a variety of Albanian cities. The inaugural ceremony was held on 12 December at the National theatre in Tirana, where participants included the local authorities and the presentation of the project as a whole, which includes conferences and project presentations involving Italian and Albanian universities.
