South Africa: Enel Green Power awarded 3 wind power projects
ENEL Green Power was awarded the right to conclude power supply contracts with the South African utility company Eskom for a total of 425 MW in wind power projects in the 4th phase of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) promoted by the South African government. An investment should amount to 500 million EUR. In particular, Enel Green Power will build two wind power plants in the province of Eastern Cape, at Oyster Bay (142 MW) and Nxuba (141MW) and another in the Northern Cape, at Karusa (142MW), both areas that offer constant windy conditions. The Oyster Bay and Nxuba projects will be completed and begin operating in 2017, while the Karusa will be completed in 2018. Once fully functional, the three power stations will have a capacity of 1,560 GWh annually, making a considerable contribution to the country’s growing energy demand.
