Focus at the Farnesina on modernising commercial law and international legal instruments to promote foreign investment

A day of discussion on the outlook for adopting the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and its three Protocols.

The modernisation of commercial law and enhancing our country’s appeal to foreign investors through international legal instruments. These were the key topics discussed at an event promoted by the Farnesina along with the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), with the participation of specialist government organisations and the private sector.

Discussion focused on the outlook for Italy implementing the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and its three Protocols, adopted as part of UNIDROIT’S activities.

Today’s event was the second meeting of this type, after the day dedicated to the instruments drawn up by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) on 15 December 2014. It should be viewed in the broader context of the Farnesina’s collaboration with international law organisations based in Italy.

Proceedings were opened by Minister Antonio Bernardini, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), and Minister Andrea Tiriticco, head of the Ministry’s Legal Affairs Service. The event consisted of an introductory report by the Secretary General of UNIDROIT, José Angelo Estrella Faria, followed by 3 modules. Each module was dedicated to one of the Cape Town Convention protocols already approved (Aircraft, Railway Rolling Stock, Space Assets). The discussion day attracted numerous participants from both Italian and European institutions and from the private sector, as testimony to the Farnesina’s commitment to initiatives in the sector of international law.
