Within the context of the renewal and continual updating of the content of www.viaggiare sicuri.it, the Farnesina Crisis Unit is working on broadening the health section to include information on the so-called “travellers’ diseases”. The pages on individual countries will provide users with information on endemic pathologies, precautions to take and specific information on that country’s main healthcare facilities.
L. Spallanzani IRCSS National Institute for Infectious Diseases – major international facility for infectious diseases
With a view to ensuring appropriate and qualified content, the Farnesina Crisis Unit will avail itself of the collaboration L. Spallanzani IRCSS National Institute for Infectious Diseases, recognised internationally as one of the most important hospital centres dedicated to infectious diseases, particularly those with a high risk level and possibility for transmission or else deriving from the use of biological agents for the purposes of terrorism.
Framework agreement signed today at Farnesina
A framework agreement was signed today at the Farnesina by which the Spallanzani Institute pledges to make its professional staff available to continuously update the content of the health section of the Crisis Unit web portal.
The agreement also includes the possibility for the Institute to makes its professional staff available to go abroad upon Crisis Unit request in response to exceptionally serious or urgent cases involving the health of Italian nationals abroad.
The agreement envisages the possibility for collaboration between the Farnesina and the Institute in sectors strategic to the activities of the Crisis Unit, such as distance assistance in cases of natural disaster and the re-entry of Italian nationals from areas of endemic disease”.
The Spallanzani Institute has a long tradition of collaboration with the MFAIC, a recent example of which was the case of the evacuation and hospitalisation of Dr. Fabrizio Pulvirenti of Emergency, who had contracted the Ebola virus working in Sierra Leone.
