UN Third Commission adopts resolution on right to food

United National General Assembly’s Third Commission, with the remit for human rights, voted in a resolution co-sponsored by Italy on the right to food, which will be formally adopted in December. The resolution reaffirms every person’s right to a healthy, adequate and nutritious diet. Thanks to Italy’s input, the text includes new references to the cultural value of food and the fight against child malnutrition, in keeping with the principles of the Charter of Milan. After the success of EXPO Milano 2015, the Farnesina continues to work to raise international awareness on themes such as poverty, hunger and proper diet as key elements on which to found an inclusive and environment-friendly economic development that ensures respect for fundamental human rights and peace.
