In USA: Italian Embassy supports Pride Month

On the occasion of the event “Pride Month – Capital Pride”, held every year from 4 to June 15 2020, the Italian Embassy in Washington joined and supported the campaign on LGBTQ+ people’s rights through the Twitter and Instagram platforms. Other diplomatic representations in Washington in addition to the State Department also participated in the campaign. Supporters include the Digital Diplomacy Coalition (DDC) and Capital Pride DC. They have amplified the visibility of the campaign through their accounts.

The awareness-raising initiative took place on the Twitter and Instagram platforms, with a series of posts concerning the priority given by all countries involved to the defence of the rights of LGBTQ+ people and the fight against all forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The initiative is in line with the positions of the Italian Government last expressed on the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia on May 17.

By participating in the campaign, it was possible to underline Italy’s commitment in promoting and protecting the principles of equality and dignity of all human beings both at the national level and in international fora, including the Human Rights Council in Geneva, where Italy sits for the three years 2019-2021.
