The Ministerial Meeting on the Syrian crisis, takes place today in New York in the format of the International Syria Support Group, which brings together representatives of China, Egypt, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States, the European Union(High Representative Mogherini) and the United Nations (Special Envoy de Mistura).
The ministerial follows the Vienna I and Vienna II meetings of 30 October and 14 November 2015. These marked the first stages in the road map established to explore a solution to the Syrian crisis with counterparts from the countries most involved in the region. Key issues on the negotiating table include the adoption of measures of mutual trust towards a gradual ceasefire and the identification of opposition delegations, following upon the Riyadh meeting of 10 December. The hope is that the scope of the agreement could progressively be broadened, in the prospect of an inclusive and credible political solution.
